In a groundbreaking partnership, the PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (PGH DRM) and the UP Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) joined forces to launch a Musicians’ Health Series—a series of talks aimed at health promotion, injury prevention, and optimizing performance for musicians.
The Three-Session Series:

🎵 Session 1: Introduction to Performing Arts Medicine – Dr. Jennifer Yang and Dr. Issa Abelita introduced the field of Performing Arts Medicine and gathered insights on what the musicians wanted and needed to know about healthy performance.

🎵 Session 2: Optimizing Performance – Dr. Frances Carlos and Dr. Ria Panis led a session on warm-up and stretching techniques, helping musicians prepare their bodies for long hours of practice and performance.

🎵 Session 3: Ergonomics & Mindfulness – Dr. Ria Panis discussed ergonomics for musicians, while psychologist Ms. Florence Culaba shared mindfulness techniques to enhance focus and manage performance-related stress.
This collaboration marks a significant step in integrating healthcare into the performing arts, ensuring that musicians receive the support they need to sustain their artistry. We are honored and privileged to bring Performing Arts Medicine to the state university. This is just the beginning—stay tuned for more initiatives in musicians' health and well-being! 🎶✨
